This policy describes how Halaly handles personal information when you use the Halaly mobile application, website and related services.

1. Who we are

Halaly is a halal restaurant discovery service. References to “Halaly”, “we”, “us” or “our” in this policy mean the operator of the Halaly service. You can contact us at support@halalyapp.com.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide

Depending on the features you use, you may provide your name, email address, phone number, profile details, account preferences, restaurant votes, feedback, favourites, support messages and other content you submit.

Location information

With your permission, the app may use your device location to show nearby restaurants, calculate distance and provide location-based recommendations. You can control location access in your device settings.

Technical and usage information

We may collect device and app information, IP address, operating system, app version, crash data, diagnostic logs, approximate usage activity and security information. This helps us operate, protect and improve the service.

Restaurant and community information

Votes, corrections, reports and other restaurant-related contributions may be stored with account and moderation information so we can prevent abuse, resolve conflicts and improve data quality.

3. How we use information

We use information to provide accounts and app features; show nearby restaurants; personalise preferences and recommendations; save favourites and contributions; operate Ask Halaly; maintain safety and security; prevent fraud and abuse; respond to support requests; analyse performance; improve restaurant data; and comply with legal obligations.

4. AI features

When you use Ask Halaly, your prompt and relevant service context may be processed by third-party AI infrastructure to generate a response. Do not include sensitive personal information in prompts. AI responses can be incomplete or inaccurate and should not be treated as definitive halal certification, medical, legal or other professional advice.

5. Third-party services

Halaly may use service providers for cloud hosting, authentication, databases, maps, places information, analytics, crash reporting, notifications, AI processing and other operational functions. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. Current integrations may include Google and Firebase services and OpenAI services.

6. Legal bases

Where UK or European data protection law applies, we process information where necessary to perform our contract with you, pursue legitimate interests such as operating and improving Halaly, comply with legal obligations, or where you have given consent, including for device location and certain notifications.

7. Sharing information

We may share information with service providers acting on our behalf; where needed to protect users, Halaly or others; during a business transfer; when required by law; or with your consent. We do not sell your personal information.

8. Data retention

We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including operating your account, maintaining community integrity, resolving disputes, enforcing agreements and meeting legal requirements. Retention periods vary by data type.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your choices and rights

You may be able to update account information, change app permissions, manage notifications, remove favourites, sign out or request account deletion within the app. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing, and to receive a copy of certain information. Contact us to exercise a right.

11. Account deletion

You can use the account deletion option in the app where available or contact us. Some information may be retained where required for security, legal compliance, dispute resolution or prevention of abuse.

12. Children

Halaly is not intended for children under 13. If local law requires a higher minimum age for consent to digital services, that higher age applies. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information improperly.

13. International processing

Our providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Halaly develops. We will post the updated version here and change the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the app or another appropriate channel.

15. Contact

For privacy questions or requests, email support@halalyapp.com. You may also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data protection authority.
